Nicolás Díaz has over ten years of experience advancing initiatives to address climate change and advance a sustainable society through consulting, research, and coordinating initiatives in the public and nonprofit sectors. He currently collaborates as Project Manager for the Waste and Circular Economy Program at the Global Methane Hub, where he coordinates the development, evaluation, and implementation of a thriving portfolio reducing global methane emissions from the waste sector.
Before his role in the Hub, Nicolás led research on organic waste management, incorporation of compost into the soil, and waste management of local ecosystems in the United States and Chile. His research was critical for passing Washington State’s Organics Materials bill (HB1799) that set the State’s goal of reducing final disposal of organics by 75 percent by 2030 and preventing at least 20 percent of edible food from being disposed of by 2025, relative to 2015 levels.
Nicolás also lectured on environmental engineering at the University of O’Higgins and led the Executive Secretariat of the University of Chile’s Committee for Sustainability. Nicolás holds a B.S. in industrial engineering from the P. Catholic University of Chile and a Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Washington.
