Alfonso Galarce, prior to joining the Global Methane Hub was the Climate Finance Officer of the Chilean Ministry of the Environment. He led climate finance and budgeting efforts for the Chilean government and coordinated the update process of the 2020 Chilean NDC. He was also in charge of the sustainability report of COVID19 Public Infrastructure Recovery Plan, and environmentally supervised the first issuance of Sovereign Green Bond’s, and the Sustainability Linked Bonds framework. He coordinated the Technical Secretariat of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Chile. Additionally, he served as the former budget, planning and monitoring director at the Chilean Ministry of Environment, being instrumental in meeting all goals on time, and contributing to shaping transformative budgets with impeccable execution.
Alfonso holds a Master’s of Public Administration in Environmental Science and Policy from Columbia University, and a Master’s of Public Policy from Universidad de Chile. He has more than 20 years of experience in international organizations and public sector institutions. Alfonso has held positions at the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Chilean Ministry of Housing (MINVU), and the Chilean Ministry of the Environment (MMA). He is based in Santiago, Chile.
